Guwahati, June 20: Journalist Action Committee (Assam) and Journalists’ Forum Assam have expressed shock and outrage at the incident of shooting at a local scribe in western Assam last evening by the miscreants and both the organizations demanded stringent actions against the perpetrators.
New York, June 15, 2015: The Committee to Protect Journalists calls for an independent investigation into the death of Jagendra Singh, an Indian freelance journalist who died from burn injuries in a hospital in Lucknow on June 8, the Press Trust of India reported. Before he died, Singh alleged that police set him on fire, according to news reports.
CPJ releases annual assessment of press freedom worldwide
Terrorist groups and the governments who purport to fight them have made recent years the most dangerous period to be a journalist, the Committee to Protect Journalists found in its annual global assessment of press freedom, Attacks on the Press, released today. Some journalists are kidnapped or killed by militant groups while others are surveiled, censored, or imprisoned by governments seeking to respond to that threat, real or perceived.
