Hyderabad, July 7, 2015: As a part of “Telanganaku Harithahaaram” programme, Hyderabad Metro Rail is taking up large scale plantation entitled “Metro Harithahaaram”. A total of five lakh plants consisting of one lakh tall avenue plants and four lakh decorative floral and foliage varieties will be planted by HMR during this monsoon.

“Metro Harithahaaram” is imaginatively designed to fit into the Urban Redesign initiative of HMR and it will transform the streetscape of the Metro corridors into attractive, pleasant and colourful environs, said MD, HMR NVS Reddy. Tall avenue plants like Raavi, Neem (Vepa), Kanuga, Pogada, Spathodia, Tabubia, Mahogany, will be planted along the Metro corridors and in Metro station areas, public places and nearby colonies connecting the Metro areas.

Specially chosen ornamental floral and foliage plants like Jatropha, Allamanda, Plumeria, Leucophyllum, Bougainvillea Lantana, Amaranthus, Tecoma etc., will be planted in the central median of the roads under the viaduct, which will give a designer garden look for Hyderabad streets in Metro corridors. These plants, as suggested in the design competition held earlier, have been collected on a large scale from different sources and nurtured in HMR’s Hydernagar nursery over the last few months.

They will be planted in different patterns and combinations to give beautiful shapes, MD, HMR stated.
